A brief presentation about me

Since I was young, my dream was to become an english  teacher. During my high school I was interested in English Language.

When I finished my high school I began to study at the University. I studied for one semester, but the circunstances of life didn’t let me to continue with my studies. When I was 22 years old I got married and I didn’t continue at the University. Even though,, my  first child was born four years after I got married, I was dedicated to work, to work and to work. When my first child was born my husband and I had a hardware store. We were happy with our first son, ten years later our second child was born. I forgot to continue studying. After 35 years my husband and I moved to a litlle town named Tibirita. We bought a medium farm and we dedicated to grow up coffee. In 2013 the mayor of the Tibirita signed an agreement with UNAD (Garagoa). I thought “ this is my chance to contiue my career”. I enrolled in Bachelor English as a Foreign Language career. At the beginnig it was very, very difficult for me. After 35 years….begin to study. During the first year I cried a lot because I said myself this is not for me. But my husband and my sons encouraged me all time. My sons are professionals and they guide me in what I need in terms of technology, in some opportunities they colaborated me with tasks, but not always.

Me as an English Teacher

Thanks, in first place to God, to my husband and my sons that in all times encouraged me to continue with my Bachelor in English as a Foreign Language career, today I’m happy to say: “I’m an English teacher”

Although until now, I have only been a teacher in my two practices, I’m sure that teaching is what I’m most appasionte about.

My teaching philosophy

Since I was young I wanted to be an English teacher. Today thanks to my effort, dedication, tutors and family, after 35 years I can say “ I have achieved my dream” Teaching is a beautiful profession! I can transmit to my students everything I’ve learned during my career. When I teach I feel that I’m contributing a grain of sand so that my students acquire knowledge. Now I’m 63 years old but it doesn’t matter when you achieve that dream longed for so many years: “Be an English teacher!”

What I learned abaout teaching speaking skills

Since I started my practices, without a doubt, these have helped me enormously to improve my speaking skills in the English Language. The practice is the best way to lose fear to facing something new.

Teaching in online environments

Since I started with my English practice in online environment, this has allowed me to learn in detail the handling of some digital tools, essential in teaching using a virtual environment. Technology advances by leaps and bounds day by day.

My learners

My learners were guys that were studying in English II level. They were attentive, respectful and they wanted to learn day by day. They were on time.

Achievements

Group A, had difficulties at the begining of the sessions with the  simple past and present verbal tenses using auxiliaries do, does and did, but at the end of the term they learned correctly this topic. I was very happy because they learned this fundamental lesson.
